CERRITOS, Los Angeles County — October 25, 2026. People planning home improvements, construction projects or street-related work in Cerritos should know that the city plans to launch a new online permitting and approvals system on Monday, October 26. The official announcement says Community Development and Public Works processes will shift to a digital review and approval system.
Which services are changing?
The city says the portal is intended to handle planning approvals, building and safety permits, inspections, excavation and encroachment work, and approvals involving landscaping and trees. Those categories cover a wide range of residential, commercial and industrial requests. Specific documentation and approval requirements still depend on the particular project.
What happened during the transition?
Cerritos announced that its Community Development and Public Works permitting and approvals would be unavailable October 19–23, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., while the new system was being prepared. City staff were to remain available for general inquiries. The planned reopening date is October 26; residents submitting urgent applications should confirm that the portal is operational before relying on it.
Where can residents apply or ask for assistance?
The city identifies cerritos.gov/permits as the place to access the new portal and a promised instructional video. For Community Development questions call (562) 916-1201, and for Public Works call (562) 916-1220. A new online form does not mean every permit is granted automatically; officials still review applications.
